Sarabande Foundation Brings Life to Selfridges
The Sarabande Foundation is the legacy left behind by Lee Alexander McQueen. Upon his passing, the late designer left the majority of his estate to support aspiring creatives by providing studio spaces, funding and mentoring. This winter, on the lower ground floor of Selfridges, in the heart of London, Sarabande is showcasing a variety of exclusive pieces.
The pop-up is a true testament to Sarabande’s mission - that art should be for everyone. This collaboration showcases the boundary-pushing work of Sarabande’s emerging artists and designers. Each artwork is completely unique to its creator, ranging from abstract to romantic, from portraits to landscapes, and from dark and intense to light and minimalistic.
Trino Verkade, Director of Sarabande, says, “We can’t wait to share the work of our brilliant artists and designers with the world when they come through the doors at Selfridges. We recognize that creativity knows no bounds, and so we hope that everyone—whether they know anything about art or not—will come and see us, find out more about the foundation and our artists, join a workshop or talk, and buy something—a mug or a painting—to support the future of creativity in this country.”
Alongside these extraordinary artworks are limited-edition creations from external supporters, including a sweatshirt by Craig Green, Sarabande alumnus, and a shirt designed by Thom Browne featuring artwork by Jake Chapman. In terms of interior design, there are exclusive pieces, such as a limited-edition plate designed by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli, Tim Burton and Francesca Amfitheatrof.
In addition to the unmissable art, the highlight of the experience is the foundation’s artists working live at the pop-up in an attempt to replicate the creative atmosphere present in Sarabande's studio spaces.
Since its launch, they have supported 280 artists from 38 countries. The opportunity to witness these talented artists at work is truly a special experience.
The pop-up will be displayed on the lower ground floor of Selfridges until the 23rd of March 2025. Whether you are seeking one-of-a-kind artwork or simply looking to support the creative industry, this is an exhibition you don’t want to miss.
